The second season of the “Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo” Championship is carrying on like a ranging fire, reaffirming Blancpain’s identity of the motorsports standard-bearer. In the first race that have just ended on the Hockenheim circuit in Heidelberg, Germany, the new Blancpain-branded Gallardo LP560-4 cars competed with each other throughout the weekend within the context of the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) championship. To mark the pleasant relationship enjoyed by the brand and the race, Blancpain’s President and CEO Marc A. Hayek raced alongside famous driver Peter Kox of the Netherlands.

Blancpain is playing dual role in the motor-racing world. While now serving as official timekeeper for the new FIA GT1 World Championship, the Manufacture from Le Brassus also remains the title sponsor of the “Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo”, which confirms the important place Blancpain occupies in the field.

To honour this prestigious championship, Blancpain has created an brand new sports watch – the L-evolution Super Trofeo 2010. With an exceptional style, the wtch features a titanium case with all carbon-fibre dial and lugs. Equipped with a flyback function, this timepiece also highlights the appliques symbolizing the Lamborghini Gallardo tail-lights and the oscillating weight shaped like a double chequered flag. While adding the final touch to the watch, the alcantara strap is subtly reminiscent of car upholstery.

Blancpain results (Team Reiter Engineering – no 24):

I have reviewed a number of diamond watches, as they form a crucial part in the haute joaillerie watch category. They emblems shine, luxury and noble glow. However, I have never such a diamond-studded watch that everywhere on the case has been decorated with dazzling diamonds. The luxury watchmaker Blancpain enriches my horizon by proudly presenting its newest Spécialités Tourbillon Diamants, a watch featuring the extreme diamond theme.

This novelty from Blancpain is a diamond men’s watch, a sheer diamond timepiece that certainly runs counter to the trend of lower-priced offerings. As seen in the picture, the three-piece case in white gold, with a diameter of 40mm, has its body all over paved with more than 20 carats of shimmering stones. Please look at the dial, my god, who can tell me what the complex pattern actually is? Centrally mounted on the dial are two hands set with diamonds. Yes, you read right, it is diamond hands that the exquisite watch employs. The well-cut bezel, as well as the lugs, the crown and the sides, is inlaid with countless brilliant-cut diamonds.

Through the transparent case back, which also paved with diamonds, we are allowed to admire the automatic caliber 25A tourbillon movement. Composed of 238 parts with 29 jewels, the movement features an adorable 168-hour power reserve. I haven’t found any markers to indicate the time, except the two diamond hands. But such a splendid watch is born for collection, not for time display, with an astronomical price of $1,342,700. Recently, the legendary NBA star Shaq O’Neal has presented a nice white Rolls-Royce Phantom as the birthday gift for his teammate Lebron James. So I wonder whether the generous ShaQ would have changed the gift if he had known this Blancpain Spécialités Tourbillon Diamants.
