Cartier has recently opened its first boutique in Saint Petersburg, located on the banks of the Moyka River. The inauguration was celebrated like a nocturne in three movements: a cocktail reception, followed by dinner at the Mikhailovsky Castle and then a nighttime cruise on the Neva River.
Cartier’s links with Russia began in the late 19th century, with the frequent visits by Russian nobility to Paris and to Cartier on rue de la Paix. Imperial Russia enjoyed a strong French influence, evident in architecture and dress, and most of the nobility and upper classes spoke French.
